I didn't have to cancel my clinical b/c after Ruthie's last throw up episode, she felt much better & bounced back to her old self. I'm convinced it must have been a stomach bug. She slept great the whole night and was able to go to preschool today!
That made it possible for Brendan to take Reagan to surgery and for me to head to clinicals. I was on the 3rd floor and they were on the 2nd floor. Since I had called my clinical instructor late last night to let her know that I might not be able to make it to clinicals, I called her in the wee hours of the morning to tell her that indeed I was going to be able to make it after all. Both times I had to leave a message and was not able to talk to her directly.
When I arrived at clinicals she asked me what was going on. I told her the situation and as soon as she heard me say my daughter was at the hospital for surgery she immediately said, "Oh we'll get you down there right away!"
Amazing!!! I didn't have to ask or say another word. She told me to go to the surgery unit and stay with my daughter until they took her back for surgery. Then I was to head back to my floor and get my patient assignment. Thank you Jesus!!
I was very happy to see Reagan and Reagan was very happy to see me. Here she is getting her cute little hospital gown on! She has this new nervous behavior of pulling at her cheek...
and pulling at her lip. She does it whenever new people come around or something unfamiliar is happening. {We were able to keep the gown btw. I'm adding it to her baby bin}
Do you like my dark blue scrubs?!
We had ohhh about 2 hours to kill before surgery. I have no idea why they require you to be there so early. We were able to go to the Ocean Room {all the toys are donated and brand new} and pick out some new toys for Reagan. We picked a stuffed caterpillar and a toy piano.We picked up a little something for Ruthie as well...a princess puzzle! Oh and this yellow, squishy, rubbery, duck thingy that shakes when you pull the string. I bet you can guess who picked that toy out. :)
or snuggling with Mommy! I just love this pic. She was stuck to me like glue.
By the end of the wait {surgery wasn't until 9am}, she was getting pretty agitated and tired. She was not allowed to have anything to eat or drink since midnight. She kept saying "maw" which means more, as in more food!!! And opening and closing her hands which is another sign she does for when she wants to eat or drink. Ahhhh, it was breaking my heart.
Once she went into surgery I headed upstairs. Brendan told me the doctor said everything went perfect! Reagan was finally allowed to have some juice and water after surgery so they gave us a new Gerber sippy cup! You can never have too many sippy cups.
